Generally, the following items are most needed:


WHOLE GRAINS  

quinoa, barley, rice, dry popcorn, cereal


UNSALTED NUTS & NUT BUTTERS  all varieties 


CANNED MEATS  

pork, beef, chicken, tuna, salmon  


COOKING & BAKING ITEMS 

all varieties of flour, spices & seasonings, salad dressings, marinades, condiments  


MEAL/SIDE-DISH ITEMS  

boxed/pouch potatoes, rice & pasta, canned soup  


PERSONAL CARE ITEMS 

full-size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, toothpaste,

 tampons, maxipads, toilet paper  


HOUSEHOLD CARE ITEMS 

laundry soap, dish soap, hand soap, kleenex, papertowels  


Fresh, frozen, and refrigerated items gladly accepted.  


Items NOT accepted:  Home-processed foods & farm-fresh eggs

FOOD DATING & DONATION GUIDELINES

McLeod Food Shelf safely distributes most shelf-stable foods up to 3-years past the best-by date on the packaging. 


High-acid foods (ie. tomato-based foods and canned pineapple) are limited to 

18-months past best-by. 


Please freeze meats before use-or-freeze-by-date and store them appropriately before donating. 


Bulk items cannot be repacked. 


Manufacturing information & full ingredient list must be intact for distribution.


Wet, soiled, severely rusted, or dented foods not accepted.

McLeod Emergency Food Shelf (MEFS) is an exempt organization as described by the Internal Revenue Code under Section 501(c)(3). FEIN# 41-1470696.

Donations are tax deductible as no goods or services were provided or exchanged for the stated contribution. MEFS is committed to donor privacy rights and does not sell, trade, or share donor personal information without donor consent. MEFS maintains esteemed stewardship of donations, documenting 97% of funds for food program distribution and 3% for program administration (2017).

Yearly Individual Donation Acknowledgement Statements are mailed out each January with cash & food donation totaling more than $10 and/or pounds. Individual receipts available upon request at time of donation. Please contact MEFS with address corrections.
